Headstand - more than head required!

Headstand - more than head required!

Headstand (Shirhsasana) is often referred to as the king of all yoga postures.  Just looking at the posture, this is easy to understand.  In headstand the body is held completely upside down with the entire weight held with the lower arms, shoulders and bandhas.  Contradictory to its name, only minimal weight is actually held upon the head itself.

In the Ashtanga tradition, headstand is performed at the end of the practice, just three asanas prior to the final resting posture.  When held for a minimum of five minutes, this posture is said to clarify the blood, helping to remove toxins in the body.  Headstand also has many other benefits, such as being a natural anti-depressant, and improving blood circulation in the body.  When practiced properly, Headstands stimulate and provide refreshed blood to the pituitary and hypothalamus glands, which are vital to our wellbeing, and are considered the master glands that regulate all other glands in the body (thyroid, pineal, and adrenals).

This workshop is open to those new to headstand as well as those wishing to refine their current practice.

During this workshop we will break down the headstand into a step-by-step sequence, helping to make this challenging, and sometimes scary, posture easier and more enjoyable.
